This is a no nonsense list of the top 7 best AR15 accessories you can purchase to upgrade your rifle. After all, it can be hard to find anything worthwhile in the thousands of different options on the market. I’ve use almost all of these accessories for many years, and thousands of rounds. I’ve included them on this list because I’ve found these gun accessories to be personally useful for any rifle. Keep reading to see the full list.
This list of AR-15 accessories is somewhat eclectic, as it’s taken a while to figure out what kinds of rifle upgrades are actually worth a damn. If I wrote a list of things I’ve tried and discarded, then this article might be titled The 300 AR15 Accessories That I Wouldn’t Recommend!
To be clear, I’m not saying that anything that didn’t make this list isn’t good. I’m simply pointing out that these are the best options I’ve used on my personal rifles, and my duty gun. I’ve also tried to include some items that you might not normally consider. Check out the full list below.
Top 7 Best AR15 Accessories List
- Magpul MOE K2-XL Pistol Grip
- Law Tactical AR Folding Stock Adapter
- Mechanix Heat Resistant Suppressor Cover (Amazon Affiliate Link)
- POF USA Straight Drop In Trigger (3.5lbs)
- Surefire M640DF Duel Fuel 1500 Lumen Rifle Light
- Mantis Blackbeard AR15 Auto Reseting Dry Fire System
- Magpul MOE Slimline AR15 Stock
The interesting thing about this list is that it spans quite the price range. The cheapest AR15 accessory is less than $15, where as the most expensive is a bit over $300. Interestingly enough, I find the cheapest option to be one of the most useful. It also keeps you from burning your expensive rifle bags!

Magpul MOE K2-XL Pistol Grip
The Magpul MOE K2-XL Pistol Grip is my favorite pistol grip for an AR15 rifle. My pet peeve is having a small, sharply angled grip, especially for a duty gun. If you’ve ever carried a rifle around all day, you know how annoyingly painful holding your wrist at sharp angle can be.
This ergonomic design fixes that, because it creates a more natural vertical angle, with respect to the trigger. Because it has a larger circumference, it also moves your hand further from the trigger face. This allows you to contact the trigger around the first joint of your finger, more similar to where a pistol trigger is.
Magpul MOE K2 XL
If you use a smaller pistol grip, you’ll find that your finger really wraps through the trigger guard quite deeply. While this is certainly shootable, I find that it slows down my trigger pull speed on longer shooting drills.
The other nice thing about the unique shape of this pistol grip, is that it has enough storage for some lube, batteries, or Skittles, depending on your needs. I normally keep some CR123 batteries in there, as well as a red dot battery for my optic. Overall I’ve really enjoyed this pistol grip in the year or so that I’ve used it.
As of this writing you can purchase it for about $23, which is money well spent. Next we’ll cover a great option to really make your rifle compact.
LAW Tactical AR Folding Stock Adapter
The Law Tactical AR Folding Stock Adapter is an awesome accessory that allows you to fold your rifle in half. If you need to carry an AR15 in a backpack, or other non-standard rifle case, then this is a must have option. It is important to note that you can’t fire the firearm unless it’s closed.
LAW Tactical Folder
One thing that surprised me was how heavy this folding adapter is. It weighs 8.5 ounces, which is about the same as an Eotech XPS 3. I will say that you don’t really notice this weight because it’s closer to your body, rather than further down the length of the rifle.
Another side benefit is that it pushes the buffer tube further away from the receiver. This makes using pistol stabilizing braces more like a stock. If you’ve ever shouldered a pistol braced AR15, you’ll know that it’s alway a little too close for most shooters. The LAW Folder fixes that issue.
As of this writing you can purchase the folding adapter for $220. Next we’ll get to the one of the most useful and best AR15 accessories on this list.
Mechanix Heat Resistant Suppressor
The Mechanix Heat Resistant Suppressor Cover (Amazon Affiliate Link) is the cheapest option on this list, and arguably one of the best. I purchased this for my PCSL matches, which are rifle and pistol matches using hit factor scoring.
In some stages I might be shooting a mag through the rifle in less than a minute. This will certainly heat up my suppressor. After the stage, I bag my rifle. To avoid melting the bag, I slip the Mechanix suppressor cover over the can before I put it up.
Mechanix Suppressor Cover
It should be said that I don’t shoot with this cover on the rifle. I’m certain that you could, but to be frank, I don’t want any more crap on my rifle. It’s a duty style gun with lights, lasers, magnifiers, and more. It’s heavy! I only use it so I can store my rifle whenever I need, and it’s worked very well.
As of this writing you can purchase the cover for less than $15, which is a screaming deal. Next we’re going to cover one of my favorite AR15 triggers.
POF Straight Drop In Trigger (3.5lbs)
The POF USA Straight Drop In Trigger (3.5lbs) is one of my favorite AR15 triggers. It’s a single stage trigger that comes preassembled for easy drop in installation. It also ships with KNS anti-walk pins, so they won’t back out under heavy use.
POF Straight AR15 Drop In Trigger
This trigger is extremely crisp with no take up, which is how I prefer. At 3.5 pounds, its about as light as I would recommend for anything other than a pure competition rifle. I also like the flat shape because it allows the same portion of my finger to contact the rifle trigger, as my pistols do.
This is one of the best ways to enhance the performance of an entry-level rifle. In fact, I actually prefer this trigger to the Geissele triggers I have on my other guns. As of this writing you can purchase the trigger for right around $160, which is great value. Next we’ll cover my favorite duty rated rifle light.
Surefie M640DF Duel Fuel 1500 Lumen Rifle Light
The Surefire M640DF Duel Fuel 1500 Lumen Rifle Light is my preferred light for most AR15 applications, especially if CQB is the name of the game. In recent years there has been a push for high candela lights, that focus the beam more tightly . These are good lights if you’re shooting outdoors, at targets 30+ yards away.
The M640DF is extremely bright, boasting 1500 lumens with 16,000 candela. This means the light is more diffuse, lighting up your immediate surroundings much better. I’ve used it on the exterior of buildings and interior rooms. I find that it works well at close ranges (30 yards an in), for room clearance.
Surefire M640DF 1500 Lumen Rifle Light
This lightweight light, also features a great mounting system. Out of the box it comes with a picatinny and MLOK mount. The mount features a low-profile attachment that allows for near infinite mounting options. It allows you to find the best position to place the light, depending on your personal preference. If you like this style of light you can also get a smaller version which would be ideal for sub guns, and smaller AR15s. Check out this review I did of that smaller option from Surefire.
As of this writing you can pick up the M640DF for $323, not including any accessories like tape switches or tail caps. Next we’re going to cover a great training tool many of you will probably not have heard of.
Mantis Blackbeard AR15 Auto Trigger Dryfire Reseting System
The Mantis Blackbeard AR15 Auto Reseting Dry Fire System is a great system for any AR15. It automatically resets the trigger, and sends out a visible laser pulse, every time the trigger is pulled. This eliminates the need to work the (hopefully ambidextrous) charging handle during dry fire.
Mantis X Dry Fire Automatic Reseting Trigger System
The system replaces the charging handle and bolt carrier group. It can handle up to 10 trigger pulls per second, which means that you can work rapid strings of dry fire. It should be noted that the battery pack is shaped like a magazine and sits in the magwell. This can limit some of your reload options for dry fire, which some competitive shooters might want to be aware of.
I’ve actually used this the most for CQB practice. It allows you to practice team CQB in structures that you can’t get paint marking cartridges on. As of this writing you can purchase it for $219. I think it makes a lot of sense if you practice with your rifle, especially given the price of a case of ammo. Next we’re going to cover a great stock, that won’t break the bank.
Magpul MOE Slimline AR15 Stock
The Magpul MOE Slimline AR15 Stock is a simple stock from Magpul. I have to admit that this is the only option on this list I haven’t personally used. However, I have used several other stocks from them and currently run a Magpul CTR on my duty gun. It’s been great, which gives me confidence to recommend the MOE Slimline.
Magpul MOE Slimline AR15 Stock
Like other options from the Magpul catalog, it has a lot of well thought out features. It has built in QD sling mounts, as well as space for a sling pass through at 1.25 inches wide. This should cover any good sling. As it’s name implies, it’s not super wide, but it does flair slightly, allowing for a nice cheek weld.
It has a total adjustable range, for length of pull, of 3.8 inches. Moreover, it’s lightweight, coming in at 9.6 ounces. As of this writing, you can purchase it for $62. In the next section I’ll review a few of my final thoughts on the most useful AR15 accessories.
Final Thoughts
After reviewing all the options on this list of the best AR15 accessories, I think the top three options are the suppressor cover, LAW folder, and the XL pistol grip. If you shoot suppressed, then you really owe it to yourself to get the cover. It will save your bags from melting and it’s a great option to avoid burns.
The LAW folder is great because it allows you to transport your firearm in more discrete bags. You can also move the balance point of the rifle further towards your center of mass. It’s a great option for more generalized rifles, or a long gun that you don’t want to carry in huge cases.
Lastly, I think the pistol grip is a great choice. It’s one of the cheaper options on the list, and it makes shooting, and carrying your rifle much more comfortable. I also appreciate putting the trigger in the same spot as my pistols.
